How do I Tell?

How do I Tell?
How am I supposed to tell what kind of differential I have? It says in Alldata that for 1983 it can have a locker or something else (I forgot, its late can't think). I have the car up on jacks now and I spun a wheel on one side and the wheel on the other side turned in the same direction. I thought if it was a locker it would spin opposite? Is there a certain way to tell, or do I have to get the ID tag of the cover and call the Ford Dealership. BTW the car is a 1983 Ford Mustang GLX Convertable 5-speed, I have everything converted over to look like a 93 GT, so I always call it a GT. Also what kind of gear came with this car stock?

RE: How do I Tell?
you dont have a locker unless someone put it in there, you would have a trac lock. diff is a locker uses gears so there is no give when u smash it to the floor you better be ready to counter steer, a trac lock uses clutches so there is some give to it, but if its in good shape it will pull posi good. if one wheel spins one way and the other spins opposite than you have an open rear.

RE: How do I Tell?
Does the left lower corner of the tag say something like 2L73? If so the 2.73 is the ratio the L trak lok. To the right might be a numer 8.8 or 7.5 which is ring gear dia. At least that's what Alldata listed for the tag codes on my 90'. My gear ratio was under the head of the bolt so I had to remove the tag to read it.

RE: How do I Tell?
Are you saying that it doesnt come with the locker (with gears) stock? It says trac-lok now that I think of it, but it showed a picture of it and it was all torn down and it used gears in it. There were four, two on the top and two on each side inside the differential. Maybe I am just being stupid and looking at the pic wrong but it still said there were two different kind of differentials that came in that car, how do I tell which one it came with? Well the car has a lot of miles on it and it pulls posi GOOD, and I'm positive its a factory rear-end, it was total bone stock when I bought it. And ok I had the wheel spinning thing backwards, good.
