RE: replace rear speakers on 87 vert
I did it in a 90 LX vert. It's very easy, just remove the panels and pul out the speakers. I got rid of the carpet under the speaker grill and put the new ones right in. Super easy

RE: replace rear speakers on 87 vert
It isnt to bad to change the rear speakers. Ok, take all the screws out of the rear quarters. Starting with the last one in the door sill, then i think 2 up the side of the quarter, and then one on top. There is one screw in the back of quarter the back rest of the seat wont allow you to get to it. Remove the seat. This will allow you to now remove the interior quarter. The speakers are held in with aluminum taps. Just take a drill bit and drill them out. The speakers then come off. It is probably a 30-60 minute job. Depending on your knowledge of you car, etc. This is brief. Let me know if you have other questions.

RE: replace rear speakers on 87 vert
thanks for the info! the carpet feels really thick is it like that infront of the speaker, if so what a poor design (muffle the sound), if so i thought about cutting out the speaker and adding a speaker cover...any thoughts?

THe carpet is the same carpet as the rest of the qaurter panel. However, the location the speackers sits does have the fiberglass cut out, so it is just the carpet that would be interferring with the sound. As for cutting out the carpet, you could probably do so and make it a top/outside mounting speaker. It would take some time, and if you have the tools it can be done. I believe there is a (t) or an (x) or some kind of crossbar made of fiberglass that is betwen the speaker, and the carpet. SO you would also havfe to cut that crossbar out. Let me know what you end up doing and how it works. I just purchased some new used quarters, mine were pretty beat up. I removed the factory speakers, but I have not purchased any new ones to install yet. If anyone needs some 89 gray quarters that has great fiberglass and carpet, but the vinyl MUST be replaced, I will sell my old ones. I would think any viynly shop, or any talented individual could fix them. You might even be able to just rip the vinyl off, prep and prepare and just paint the fiberglass to match the interior. Let me know if anyone needs some rear interior quarters, that need some work.
