I see a lot of them at the track. I dont know of any problems but you might consider a bigger alt.

yeah... the stock alternators on 5.0s are very weak in stock form, and a cheap way to upgrade, is to swap for one off of a 96-98 stang... those are 130 amp and are a very quick change... something you might look into

cool, yeah was planning on upgrading alternator with it too.
porbably get an electric fan installed at same time.

what do you think it will free up with electric fan and pump?
10-20hp? or is that optimistic?

CSR has a good rep for electric water pumps. I personally am looking into a Meizre(not sure if that's spelt right) But they got one that flow 55 GPM. That's f*cking crazy. ha ha ha. And with this hat a$$ turbo under the hood those 55 GPM are what is needed to sustain a nice cold temp.

I have a meziere water pump, howe aluminum radiator and a black magic fan and 180* t-stat....The only problem I have is that the waterpump is seeping a little at the pump motor. I emailed meziere and Don Meziere ( owner maybe? ) replied and said to send it in and they will fix it. Now, I don't know if that means "we'll fix it for free" or "we'll look at it and give you a quote". Anyway, my point is this: If you get one and it takes a dump their pretty expensive to replace. Regular water pumps are like what $40? For a street car, stay with the regular junk and buy gears or some other stuff you "need". Your going to gain what, you said 10-20HP, at the flywheel, thats like 5 at the wheels. Is 5 RWHP worth $2xx. for a water pump, however much a fan costs and the alternator upgrade? IMO for a street car...no.

The problem I have with the electric is there is no mecanical connection to the motor like a regular pump. I wouln't trust it...just me. I also don't think the hassle and cost is worth it for a few horse that you won't even feel. What will you do with your belt? Also, if you put a electric pump on, you will need a electric fan (no place for the old clutch one) Just what I think........

Only real problem is just like anything else electric. It can give out on ya and leave you stranded. Not that a mechanical one can't, there is just more chance for error on the electric.
