Default How hard is it too...

I want to clean my fuel injectors and anything around that area, but what do I need to do to get to them such as do I need to take the intake off and everything? Reason is because I am getting terrible gas mileage and I don't know what next. I just did the fuel filter, and doesn't seem to be the answer. I am trying to do a self tune-up because in 40 miles I am coming on 0 (100000) 5-digit odometer. Trying to get everything done, already did wires, plugs, cap, brakes, fluid, oil/gasket, shocks/structs/springs, tranny, and more... I heard dirty or bad injectors maybe the problem, and I am wanting to change the valve covers as it is so that is omething I would do since I am taking them off.

i think they make a liquid for cleaning the injectors that you just drop in your gas tank.... i got some sitting on my kitchen counter, hope no one adds that as an ingrediant in soup or anything

Yeah theres one that you just pour in the tank to clean them, I like lucas personally. But if your talking about taking them out and cleaning them No, you cant. You have to take it to a shop to have them cleaned. Just might as well buy some new ones. There not expensive anymore.

What would you recommend replacing them with, I am trying to gain back some mpg not hp. Its a cruiser not a jammer so maybe that will let you understand. What is the life expectancy on FI, because is it just worth replacing? Also what is the teardown to get to it, btw I love the promptness of replies on this forum.

I would get some standard Ford #19 injectors for what you're trying to do.

$200 for 19's :-(, not sure if it is quite worth replacing at the moment, but if it improved my gas efficiency it would be nice, can't quite figure why I get 150 to a tank, tanks are about 13gals right?

Cleaning the outside of the injector will do nothing but waste your time. I would get a good quality additive for the tank. Waste of money buying new injectors to see if it will restore lost mileage. How are the condition of the tune-up parts. That's where I would start. Air filter dirty? Check the timing as well. Is the car modded in any way, if so what mods?

1990 Mustang GT 5.0, it does have a MAF, I have not clocked it yet to make it leaner (would it be counter-clockwise to lean it out). I have a Summit CAI and filter is brand new. Don't have any mods, just upgrades. BBK Headers, x-pipe w/cats, super 40s, Summit CAI, that would be it I guess.. Sure I have more that effect fuel efficiency just not sure and what I remember of course. I haven't check timing, would that be very critical?

Ohh while I am at it, instead of making a post... How do you adjust the ebrake, mine is terrible. I am just thankful I have an automatic, because if I had a manual I would be in deep ****. Mine is very loose, and some times when I pull the e-brake to far it like loses catch on the cable and keeps going up. Is the adjustment at the console or under the car. The manual kept me floating on where it was suppose to be.
