hey just wondering whats needed to convert to run e85 on my mustang its supercharged and runs best with 100 + octane and seeing e85 is 105 o ctane im thinking it would work perfectly but seeing that alchohol is corrosive what would be needed to swap or change on my car to make it campadable with alchohol

[8D]Same here. I have a '90 7 up convertible with 24 lb. injectors. Was wondering if this would supply enough ethanol to run on.
BTW, I've been told that any car built after the late 80's should be able to use a high percentage of methanol because all the rubber in the fuel system is synthetic. Natural rubber turns to glue when soaked in ethanol.

I know that my mom's '04 explorer can run on the E85 and regular gasoline. I'm jealous, E85 here is 1.97 where as regular 85 octane is about 2.98 in CO.

Most cars after the 80's are designed to run on some methanol. Back in the days it was referred to as gasahol. It was a very low mix of ethanol, 15% or less. E85 is only 15% gasoline and the other 85% is ethanol (thats why it gets poorer gas mileage, not as many long chain hydrocarbons for the energy output in a gallon). I would be cautious of seals in carbeurators, fuel injectors, fuel lines, and fuel pumps. My '03 Explorer was designed to run on either gasoline or e85, and it has a special notation in the gas filler area showing that it can run Flex Fuel. Ford used that to help with some of the federal fuel milage regulations for their company. It is designed differently to be able to do that. Not all '03 fords are Flex Fuel Capable. Also remember your kindergarten chemistry. Ethanol forms an azyotrope with water, so you can never get all of the water out of the alcohol by normal distillation. You'll always have around 5% of the alcohol as water, so the more alcohol that's in your system, the more water that's in your system.

EDIT: Ooops, forgot to mention that on the explorer designed for flex fuel, there is a sensor system that automatically changes the tuning profile based on whether it's E85 or regular gasoline/gasohol.

my dad said back in the day he used to run his old dodge in the early 80's on e85 so would i be able to run that too my car is carburated its an 84

They sell e85 at tracks for high compression cars. They require a special carb and probably other things to run it. I don't think I would swap over to e85 yet, I don't think that the world has decided what it will swap oil with yet.

my owners manual actually has something in it about running off of ethanol i have to go out to my car in the morning and look at it its late and im feeling lazy dont really feel liek going outside right now

i think its a bunch of ****ing bull ****. just like people cant make moon shine anymore. the tail says that you could run cars off of it. well guess what we need some old fart that knows how to do that to start brewing. we all would have something to drink and fuel to run on [sm=icon_cheers.gif]
