Hey all,

I recently purchased a short shift kit for my '89 GT convertible 5 speed, but it did not come with instructions. I'm fairly handy with a wrench but have never undertaken a project like this before. Does anyone have any input or advice on installing this thing? Is it fairly straightforward or should I take it to a shop to have it done? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

Its pretty easy. I did it on my old 83 Datsun/Nissan 280zx(Has the Borg Warner T-5 also) Just remove all the interior trim pieces from around the shifter, then youll see the 4 bolts that hold the shifter in place. Remove those, pull out old shifter, get new shifter, put it in place, then insert and tighten bolts.

Be sure to clean the old silicone off and add new layer of RTV then bolt in snug. You might want to remove you whole center counsel to make things easier, that rubber boot can be hard to remove with it in place. Ohter than that, pretty sraight foward.

It was real easy for me. didnt even remove the center counsel.
