engine probs plz hlp
couple weeks ago i put a cam in my car and everything went ok untill i got it running the lifter where not pumping up to i bought all new ones from ford and bought the tool to prime them up so i used the tool and now every time i put every thing back together and tighten the rockers by hand first then torque all them down there are a few that are not tight there should be tension on them all the time but on the few there is not so i filed down the pedistals a little on the rockers and that seemed to help but there still is noise so im not sure on what to do now i never had this prob before the only thing i did was put a cam in and change the valve springs and now put new lifters in and to top all of this off i just found out that i blew a head gasket so i dont know if this all has somthing to do with eachother but hopefully u guys have some ideas thanks

RE: engine probs
What cam did you put in? Some times when installing a new cam you need to get longer push rods, that sounds like it is you problem. I don't think you are getting proper preload on your lifters. Head gasket would be a separate problem in my opinion.

I think so. Do you have shims under them? When you adjust them, you are supposed to take the lash out of the pushrod, then do between 1/2 to one full turn to you torque spec of 19lbs. If it takes more than one turn add shim if it takes less than 1/2 remove ship or add longer push rod all to get proper preload. I think the lifter is supposed to be preloaded to like .075 or something like that, I would have to look in the book to be sure.

RE: engine probs
i did not shim them cause the bottom shims i had would not work with my car cause it has stock heads and we did not change the valve depth cause i did not grind them so all i did was just swap the springs in and change the seals so yeah im not sure wtf is going on

RE: engine probs
not really sure, sorry. I think they are threaded and turn in and out to make them longer or shorter. You use that like a push rod and adjust you rocker preload and when you get it right, you measure the rod and get that length
