Tire sizes for pony rim(I know its been beaten to death)
I need new tires on all 4 of my ponies. I did a search and read that 245 is the biggest one should go safely. Thats fine with me. What I dont understand is what middle number to get 245/??/16. I think thats the sidewall? I prefer lower profiles if that makes a difference.
I also would like to stick to stock for the front two wheels.
Will there be any problems if I have different kinds of tires for the front two and rear two?

The middle number is the "aspect ratio". Which your right, it is basically telling you the size of the sidewall. From what I remember at school what it is, you take the first number say 225 and then you take the second number as a percentage of the first number and that gives you the size of the sidewall for both sides of the rim. So say 225/45/R16 is the tire size. 225 times .45 (45%) equals 101.25. so the sidewall is 50.625 on the top side and 50.625 on the bottom side.
Correct me if I'm wrong anyone but I believe that is how it works.

^^That's correct. Here's a pic of mine w/ 245/50's on my pony's. If you don't run the same size all the way around, you can't rotate them, but that's the only real disadvantage.

I dont mind not being able to rotate. So what do you guys think I should get for the front and the back. I know I want 245 in back and 225 up front but what 'aspect ratio' should I go for?
Also, the car is mainly a summer car but I would like to be able to drive in rain or snow if need be(live in Chicago) what tires would you guys recommend?

I have run 255 on them before but wouldn't suggest that on the front. A LOT of rubbing. I am currently running 245 in the back and 205's up in the front. With the 16 wheel you really limited to the aspect ratio that you can get. For 245's you'll find either 245/45 or 245/50. Haven't personally seen anything other than those two sizes. and for the 225, I honestly don't know.
I haven't tried them yet be they are supposed to be the best for all weather. BF Goodrich G-Force KDW. Those are for dry and wet. I think the one for snow too is the KDWS. Dry wet snow

I am running 225/50/16 on front and 225/55/16`s on rear. The 55`s are a little taller than the 50`s. I will be switching to a 245/50/16 or even a 245/45/16 if they have that size. Since it is wider, a 45 should be about the same hight as the front, since the height is a % of the width, make since?

It depends on the transmission you have... If you are running a stick, go with something alittle higher... probably a 245/55 would work best. If you have an auto and like the low pro look, go with some 245/50 or 245/45s....
When you are using a stick, there is alot more shock that hits the rear tires on take off, and the higher sidewall will help to absorbe some of that shock and make the tires hook better.... running low pro with a stick is not the best idea for traction
also, with the taller sidewall, if you are on stock suspension front and back, it will help fill out the wheel wells abit

^^I agree. If you do decide lower profile, I wouldn't go below 245/45's...(if they do make them) it'll look goofy.
