Default anyone know?

i just bought a pair of 3.73's for my rear end, and i was wondering what the stock gearing was for an 89 gt with a manual trans? I have heard they are 3.08, but then i was told it was 2.73? I am confused and would like to know how much work i have in front of me! thanks!

depends what package you bought when you first purchased the mustang. I am assuming you are not the first owner?

Check the axle for a tag, should be one somewhere saying what the gears are.

yeah i looked on the tag but i dident find anything...its not a big deal i would just like to know if the whole thing will take me a couple hours with the 3.08 or if i will spend all day shimming the thing...oh well, im excited about it either way...third gear is killin me
Oh one more thing, does anyone know what ford cars if any came with 4 lug 8.8 disc rear brakes? I have seen a couple of them rolling around, but I am not sure what cars they came -off of? maybe a t-bird or something?? thanks

the time to change is the same no matter what the original gears were. 5 speeds in 89 came with the 3.08 gears, autos got the 2.73's.
if you're going this far, it would be a good idea to replace the pinion and carrier bearings while you're in there, can't hurt and it will save going back in later. make sure to check the contact pattern with white grease and shim as needed to get it correct or you will get some gear noise that you don't want. also make sure to include the additive for the traction lok or you will get noise from it also. I'm sure you will like the difference the new gears make, 3.73's really woke up my 88!
good luck!
