Changing out your speedo gear is EASY, for those of you who don't already know this. I did mine Saturday before I put my new tranny back in. Here's the steps (w/ pics):
Pic 1--The housing for the speedo gear is located at the rear of the tranny.
Pic 2--There is one bolt (7/16 wrench or socket) on the retainer keeping the housing in place. Remove the bolt and the clip slides out toward the bolt side.
Pic 3--This is the housing w/ the current speedo gear.
Pic 4--A small flathead screwdriver will remove the clip holding the speedo gear in place and then it just slides off. The speedo gear slides on to a square peg, so just rotate it a little as you slide it on and it should go w/o any force.
Then just replace the clip on the speedo gear, slide the housing back in (facing same direction as before), and replace the housing retainer and bolt.
