Bigger MAF makes car run badly

Bigger MAF makes car run badly
I swapped out my stock MAF with an 76mm MAF this afternoon. With the new MAF is runs pretty badly, bad idle, bad throttle response, car tries hard just to stay alive..
All sensors are in and are good and If I go back the stock size MAF everything is fine... My question is: is it bad for the car when using a bigger MAF? I have everything else stock except exhaust and the K&N...
Thanks for any input

RE: Bigger MAF makes car run badly
Sorry I should clarify... I am using the same meter but the bigger housing... I have no idea why it would run poorly just by changing the MAF housing, but it does and right when I switch it back to the stock its fine again with no other changes...

Also, I can switch the housing back and forth with ease and everytime I go to the new 80mm the car runs poorly, its not a fluke... I don't understand this one bit - it makes no sense [8D]

the ECU computer must be recalibrated to match up with the new meter in order for the car to run properly. you've proved this by putting the stock one back in and it runs OK but doesn't run worth a damn with the new meter. somewhere in the directions for the new meter they should have told you that the recalibration was necessary.

RE: Bigger MAF makes car run badly
Im using the same meter, no change in electronics... just the chrome housing that the meter goes in. Im switching from stock (?) to 80mm.
This is the only thing I knew I would need to fix it going into buying it, but no biggy..... I hope

RE: Bigger MAF makes car run badly
recal of 'puter is not nec. true....I ran a 306 s/c with 10 psi and a 80mm c/l with the stock 'puter worked great only when I went to 15 psi 90mm maf (ford) 42 inj. 75 mm t/b did I change my 'puter
so milkey you must have the wrong calibration tube for your injectors
