Future (very near) Engine build
Ok, I dont mean to have ya guys all guessin for me, but if ya havent caught it by now, I'm building up a stroker motor. After a lot of debating, I've settled on the 331 (didnt like the idea of the wrist pins in the seals... everyday driver.) I can't afford heads, so I'm goin to stick my stock ones back on for now. Coast High 331 kit, switching back to carb, with hopefully a B3 or Z3 cam, torker 2 manifold, and approx a 650-750cfm carb. I'll have to live with stock heads for now, that extra 1000-1500 bucks just isnt in the budget for now. Is this setup going to be healthy or am I wasting money? Will I HAVE to run a stall converter... I'd like to stay streetable. Lotta questions, but I'm sure somebody has the answers. Thanks a bunch.
P.S. What kinda horses do you think i'd be running with said setup?

Zcam not a good choice for stock heads for sure! B303 would be ok with the stockers, but as everyone else has said, and will say again, stock mustang heads suck! And alot of people don't seem to like the b303 because of it's low lift (.480 i think), but if you run some good 1.7 (true)
ROLLER rockers you'll be up around .510 lift wich isn't too bad. Lots of people seem to like the tfs stage 1 cam for mild projects like yours though. maybe check into one of those

it might be a little faster b/c of the extra displacement, but not much. (stock heads suck)
i would save some more money and build the motor later. meanwhile you could add a 3200 rpm stall and most likely hit 13's.

If thats not a motivation killer, I don't know what is. I've got the prepared block sitting in my barn this very moment. I'll be ordering the stroker kit approx next week.

Its not a waste. They are just saying that until you pull off them stock heads and add a nice set that its just not going to make near its potential. If you plan on keeping it with stock heads than yes you are wasting your money but if you plan on swapping them out in the future than just go for it. You will still make decent power just not nearly enough as you would be with a nicce set of free flowing heads. And also, with the cam.. you might want to stick with the B cam.
