ok 88 gt with maf conversion, idles bad sometimes rocks the car, code 44 out of it, at 4500-5000rpm , hard accel, cuts out and spuders and spits, runs great in between 1000 and 4000rpms, ive cleaned the idle motor and changed it with another one, set base idle and tps voltage, what you guys think is going on

code 44 is a smog pump code, is that still on the car? if it is, make sure all connections are correct and that the vacuum solenoids are operating properly. i dont think that would cause the driveability problems you are having though, did you check fuel pressure? i would try to get a fuel pressure gauge on it and hard accel and see whats going on. also tfi modules could cause a problem like that and they are common. and of course, make sure no vacuum leaks around intake, vacuum tree, brake booster, etc.

well its pulling a about 24 pounds of vac, so i dont think theres any vacume leeking, the tfi is the little box on front of the distributer just making sure, i will check my fuel pressure when i get a chance, could the pick up inside distributer cause this problem

smog pump?! just take that crap off the engine. and do what he said. you obviously have fuel pressure if its running fine at 1000 to whatever. but get a pressure guage with a long hose on it. hook it up and have a buddy ride with you to watch the guage when it starts screwing up. That TFI moudle would cause the car to die randomly wouldnt it?

i had 2 tfi modules go bad on me, one would stall if i gave it more than half throttle, the other would feel like i was running on 7 cylinders, they can cause all sorts of driveability problems.

All are possibilities that need to be checked, go with the pressure first (reads like a fuel starvation problem)...if it checks out ok, follow this TFI module & stator sensor test procedure. Hope this helps.

PS: Don't worry about code 44 being a possible cause for the problem....BTW, any mods done to the mechanical parts of the engine?
