Default GT-40 302

I can get my hands on a 5.0 out of a 1998 Mountaineer that has been wrecked. The motor its self was not damaged and still cranks. The car has 230,000 miles on it but I plan on boring it .30 over anyways. My question is would 400 be a good price? And is the block even the same as the EFI's in the Mustangs with the 5.0's? I plan on dropping it in a Fox or an SN. Preferably a 94-95 GT. Advise and information greatly appreciated.

$400 doesnt exactly sound like a steal.
you can buy rebuilt stock long block for like $800.

difference in explorer V8 and mustang is stang had HO 5.0
which has different firing pattern.

I don't think it's a bad deal. How much will it cost you to rebuild the block? You'll need at least a stock mustang 5.0 cam, if not an E cam or TFS stage 1.

It will have the GT40 P heads on it, which flow decent #'s for stockers. Get a valve spring kit and roller rockers and you can have a pretty decent motor in no time.

If it has the intake on it, you'll be another step ahead b/c the stock Exploder/Mountaineer upper flows similar to a cobra upper and uses basically the same lower intake.

Well I have to pull the motor myself (But the car is wrecked so I can just cut alot of sh*t). I don't mind motor work and swapping parts but how much will I have to change to bolt it into a 5.0 stang or a 94-95? I figured I'd get the spring set and do a 3-angle valve job and port&polish the intakes. If I bore it to a 306 will the heads and intake still work suitable? ANd be able to handle N2o?

Yeah, those heads will fit anything up to a 351. P&P and valve springs on the heads will help a lot. You'll need motor mounts for your year stang, a stang cam or aftermarket stang cam, and I'd get roller rockers instead of the stamped ones that come on it.

No reason all the parts won't work fine on an overbored 302/306.
Like has been stated, the motor is not exactly a smokin' deal........
