Stall Converters?

RE: Stall Converters?
Yeah guys, but is there really a need for a converter on a stock 5.0? I understand that a cam that makes power at 3000 - 7500 needs a stall but what good is it with a stock cam that makes power from 1500 - 5000 rpm's? Not sure on numbers here but you understand. Just 4:10's and a shiftkit would do just as good right? ...........I raced a cutlass with a 327 and a 3000 stall and smoked it out of the hole and beat him overall. I road in it and I thought it was kinda overkill. By the time he was done easing into gear I was ahead! We are talking about a street ... daily driver right?

The right converter will allow the engine to reach it's torque peak sooner. Not only that but a good (ie NOT B&M) will have a stall torque ratio of 2.0 or better whick will multiply the engines torque adn help the car get out of the hole a lot better. Yes a QUALITY higher stall is a great mod for a stockish engine. The key here is to buy a high quality converter, and I hate to say it but those cost money, but buying a cheap one is a complete waist of money and install time.

rsw007 is right, that b&m is worthless. especially at only 2000rpms. i ran a 2200rpm converter when my car was stock and i couldnt even tell the difference from the stock one. i love my 3200rpm stall from edge. wouldnt trade it for anything and daily driving isnt effected at all

But will a stall affect the way it's driven on the street? ...like if your just drivin around...will it still stall under normal driving conditions? [&:]
