Ok I have made a vid of me driving around in my 4000 rpm stalled SS, I know it's not a Stang but it should give you an idea of what a lock up stalled car will be like.

from what i've been told though is that since my motor is basically stock, a stall just a little over than stock would be best? specially if i haven't started any of the real HP mods like h,c,i. how much of a stall is good for a 5.0 EFI with 4.10s pretty much stock?

won't too much stall hurt performance also?

If you go way overboard then yes it might hurt performance. I would at least go 3000 rpm, especialy if you paln on getting a cam and othermods down the road. One thing that a lot of people don't think about is that that the new torque converter will multiply torque better than the stocker. Us f-body guys put 3000+ converters in stockish cars all the time, and usually gain up to 1/2 second in ET, I am not saying you will get that much but you will see a good gain.

Ok, with my 3.73s and shiftkit, if I installed a 3000 stall and was sitting at a light beside a cop would I be able to drive off without worry of bein pulled over? When I worry about the car still being streetable, thats what I mean.

A 2800 stall would probably be the best all around for a mainly stock motor, and even for a mildly built one. Basically, the stall convertor works like a slipping clutch. It basically slips until you reach a predetermined rpm i.e. 2800. Then it fully locks and the trans is fully locked to the motor, there is no slippage. Stall convertors were originally designed for cars that have a REALLY high redline. They had NO power off the line so they needed it to "slip" a little until the motor reached its power curve. Thats a **** poor explanation at best, but thats the idea.
-P.
PS: Personally I HATE automatics, they suck for my style of driving anyway. I cant wait till I get the parts I need for my T-5 swap into my 5.0 ranger. AOD = crap crap crap.

Well not quite, a regular converter like in a C4/C6 will not ever lock up and will always have some slip. An AOD converter will lock up as it has a solonoid and a clutch inside that allow for this. One thing that is often overlooked is that a givin converter will stall differently behind different engines. For example a converter that stalls at 2500 rpm behind a 302 might stall 3000 rpm behind a 347 stroker due to the increased torque. Agin it this discussion is another good example of al the parts in the system needing to matched and work together.

As long as you take off easy you will be fine, it's not like droping the clutch at 3000 rpm. Watch my vid, in the first part I just take off normal.

if you take off by just pressing the gas normally (not flooring it) the cop nor you will know any difference. i have the same thing but with a 3200 stall and when i take off lightly the only thing that happens is the front end lifts up about 1.5-2" but still begins moving forward like it was stock. the font end lifts cause i have soft springs and no sway bar.
