i dont have a mustang yet, i was just wondering what do you have to do to convert a 88 to maf

ECU, a bit of wiring, intake with MAF housing and sensor.

3 main parts.
Computer (A9L A9P)
Wiring harness.
And a mass air sensor.

Uh,... how much does it cost to make XXX wheel horsepower? It depends on a lot of options.
You can:

ebay/junkyard factory ECU (the CORRECT model) - $100
ebay/junkyard MAF connector - $10
ebay/junkyard used stock MAF intake and sensor - $75
autozone wire, connectors, solder, etc. - $10

OR

AEM EMS Standalone - $1400
aftermarket MAF connector patch harness - $50
aftermarket intake - $250
aftermarket MAF - $200

It's up to you. I personally think grabbing all stock components and upgrading the intake later along with the MAF/injectors would be the wisest decision. You need to switch a few pins to the ECU and add the harness for the MAF sensor. It can be done by an enthusiast; look up the pinouts on here.
