Default Question about cam..... not chocie but info.

OK i know a good bit about cars and engines but Im a lil murky on this subject. Whar part of the cam profile gives it it's lope? Is it the duration, Lobe seperation angle or what? Like w say if u had an engine with a one step bigger cam and 1.6rr's, would it be the same as an engine with the stock cam and 1.7rr's. I love thr throttle response and low to mid power of the stock cam and i love the idle. Just wondering if it would lope a lil if i added some 1.7 rr's? If i dont keep stock its deff getting a tfs stage 1 cam.

The lope, IMO, is determined by the overlap (OVL), the time intake and exhaust valves are partially open at the same time. Duration and LSA are the main contributors to the OVL.....in other words, the higher the OVL the bigger the lope. Although running 1.7 rollers will change the duration a few degrees, it will not increase the OVL in a way to significantly notice a lope.

FYI, OEM cam OVL = 39° and Stage 1 OVL = 53°.

i agree, from what i understand the lope is determined by the duration and lobe seperation angle. For example, my stock Cobra cam w/ 1.7 rockers is .480 lift and 270° duration, which isnt bad I guess but the reason there is no lope is because the Lobe seperation angle is 118° which is pretty high when u compare the aftermarket ones which are usually 109-114°

It's the duration.

In your case, you're below the OEM OVL of 39°.......the cam you have installed has an OVL of 34°. Now....if you had an LSA of 108°, leave duration at 270°...OVL would be 54°.....± same as a stg 1 cam....± same lope sound too.

Check this 275°/279° duration (stg 1) and 53° OVL cam lope sound.....now...

check this 278° duration and 61° OVL cam lope sound......hear the difference?...and they're both in the 270's duration band.
