Default 86cobravs.88cobra

Hi! I have an 88 mustang cobra gt and I found a deal on an 86 cobra that is complete and running but rusty and I would like it as a parts car. Are most parts compatible like the tranny, rearend , intake and injectors? What are the differences between 86 and 88's? Thanks for your input.

well I've never heard of an 86 cobra... correct me if I'm wrong, but regardless.. a 5.0 86 mustang and a 5.0 88 mmustang are very similar... I believe they may have slightly different heads in them, but everything should be pretty much aa bolt in... unless the 88 is an origianl califfornia car. All fo the fuel injected 5.0s until 1989 were speed density, then in 89 they implemented mass air. The california cars in 88 however got mass air before the rest of the country. As long as your 88 is not one of these, then you should be just fine.

Only the '93s had cobras. That's all I know.

In Canada they called the GT's Cobras for some odd reason... so unless your car is from Canada its not a Cobra.

Yeah. Your car is probably a mustang gt or lx with cobra skin on it. Sorry.

Thanks for the answers guys, I'm from Canada and both cars are from here. My 88 is speed density. I was wondering why the 86 is rated at 205 hp and mine is supposed to have 225hp. What is the difference?

the main difference between the 86 and 87-88 speed density cars is a different set of heads, a different cam, and the 86 had flat top pistons that pretty much only work with the 86 head
