i didnt replace the tfi i thought it went bad but it turned out to be my voltage regulator

When you turn the key right before the you fully turn it to start you should hear the fuel pump kick on. Do this a few times to see at any point you do not hear the fuel pump kick on. My 87 did the samething your talking about. At 1st it would just stall out on me and then start right back up. Then I noticed it got worse over time and would start after a few tuns of the key...then one day I noticed I did not hear the fuel pump run so I had to keep on turning my key and wait for the pump to run...as soon as I heard the pump kick on it started. Im almost 100% sure that it your problem. Took about 2 hrs for me to drop my tank and change the pump. Not fun doing it alone.
