Default TAKING OUT DASH. HELP PLEASE! 89 GT CONVT.

I am taking out the dash of my 89 mustang for the first time. I think I have everything lose. Except the hose that comes from the back of the heat ac gauge. It is a yellow hose that goes to a goldish cylinder, coming out the cylinder is a little arm with a hole. I believe this is opening/closing the vent flap! How do I unhook the hose from the cylinder. What am I supposed to do? I just unhooked the cylinder from the dash, but I dont know if I should have. When I put it back on, is there a certain way the arm coming out the cylinder has to go back on? It rotates around in a circle, so getting it back to the original position seems impossible. Do I have an issue? Please let me know so when I put the dash back in I can make sure I get that correct. Thanks.

i just got done reinstalling my dash. I've got an 89 lx, but the dash boards should be the same. I also had the same issue with the little yellow tube. it's a vacuum tube that controls the heater flap. Mine just fell off when I was putting the dash back in. You should be able to pusth the controller peice with the 3 **** back through the hole in the dash. That way you dont have to disconnect it.

A word of caution: Your air vents may bind with the metal brackets that held the dash. Be careful when trying to reinstall it. Also, that little yellow tube fell off the gold cylinder as the dash was being reinstalled. Now I have to remove it again.......

Thanks for the reply. I actually ubolted the cylinder from the dash. How does the hose attach to the cylinder. When I pulled on it I thought I was going to rip the hose. Can you let me know how to get that hose off without causing damage. Thanks, Landon.

One more question. It was 1Am this morning when i finally got the dash out so I didnt have a chance to mess with the AC vents. But how do the vents come out off the dash and dash pad? Thanks, Landon.

The hose on mine actually came loose on it's own...... That was when i was putting the dash back in so Im guessing it will just pull loose. As far as removing the air vents (I take it that you're talking about the plastic peices in the front of the dash) They have two clips in the top and two in the bottom. All mine required was a small regular screwdriver and a little persuasion.
