94 convertible motor
I have a 94 gt convertible and When I tried to drop the top today no go. I could hear a small tick noise like the power was getting there but no action. Do I need to replace the pump or the lifter pieces? How do I access it? Also has anyone bought one of those replcement tops from ebay that cost like 150.00 ? Are they junk? How hard is it to replace the top?
Thanks

RE: 94 convertible motor
I heard tops are kinda tough to replace if you've never done it before, and as for the ebay top im not sure, but someone had put a cheaper top on my car (lasted about 4 years since i've owned it) but it wrinkles bad when you have it dropped for a bit and raise it back up. After a while of sitting, the wrinkles go away, but the top doesn't leak still, just the threads are starting to desintagrate and it's starting to break up a bit. Im probably gonna get one of those myself in the near future.
As for the motor clicking, you can find it and hot wire it (jump power straight from the battery to the positive side of the motor) and see if the motor kicks on. If it were the cylinder that push it up and down had gone bad, you would hear the motor working (humming noise) and hear a hissing sound from the air escaping somewhere close to your rear interior 1/4 panels.

RE: 94 convertible motor
!!!!! this EXACT situation happend to me, the clicking is the relay switch, its doing that because the motor is not using the power.
what most likley happend is that the brushes in the motor wore out. If this is the case, take it to an electric motor shop and try to find brushes that match. (if you don't know how an electric motor works go to google or something and do some research so you don't get ripped off. )
-If it IS the brushes they should be $8~$15. Don't let him give you the whole "$500 rebuild speech"
--------
If the commutator or magnets cracked, then the motor is done, you could get a rebuild but it would probably cost you more than you can get one new.
If thats you problem, go to ebay and win an auction for a used one. you can get them for about $80
-one lase thing, be careful not to open the wrong side of the motor or the fluid lines because all the fluid will come out and be a big mess in you trunk.
hope this helps
