Default RE: Gt 40 vs Gt40P heads

I'm looking at the same thing. I can get a pair new for $650 either type head. Actually they are pull offs from new motors. I'm interested in torque throughout the RPM range up to 5,500. The same place has "Truck" lower manifolds for $35, pull offs again. I'm leaning towards the non "P" types and saving my cash for a S/C, throttle body, etc. Any comments on the plain GT40's?

plain gt-40s are still better than the e7s, if you can get them for cheap, then you could get a nice 30hp increase.... and thats on the optimistic side. if your gonna s/c... then a regular gt-40 would be fine, just have a p&p done

I just ordered a set of P's from the local boneyard for $250 with a 6 month guarrantee. So what's the deal with these being non smog heads? Something about no thermactor ports? Also, I can have the guys in the toolroom at work back cut the valves. Anybody know if these heads will respond to it or not? If so, what's the recommended back cut angle?

ORIGINAL: clienterror

P's also require a special header so you can acess the spark plugs.
BBK shorties and FRPP shorties both work w/ P heads.

All BBK's? A guy here has a used set, but they are older not sure of how old. Is there anything to look for other than mating them up to the heads when I get them? . Anybody about the thermactor ports or whatever?
