You sure about the year of that capri?Because they stopped the 5.0 in the capri in 1986.

I need the real year and the engine info is it stock? Is it an H.O?

I'm not sure, but I think the haynes manual says something like: mustang and capri 87-93... or something like that. They might still have the 5.0 just not ho

RE: 88 Capri engine

Maybe the engine is not from a capri...its an 86 gt that i bought, the guy said it had an engine from an 88 capri, i know the engine is from an 88 but it must not be a capri. i didn't know they stopped capri in 86 guess i was lied to. oh well, it is a 5.0, and it is a ho, so what are the specs for an 88 5.0 HO then? sorry i got the year wrong, what an asshole of a guy that sold it to me.

the 88 5.0 was rated for 225 HP and 300 ft-lbs torque from the factory. it comes stock with a 59 mm throttle body, 19 lbs/hr injectors, dual cats on both sides, 2.73 rear gears in an automatic and 3.08 gears in a stick. compression ratio is 9.0:1, intake valve is 1.78", exhaust is 1.45" and combustion chamber volume is 61-63 cc. what else you want to know?

um....well i'm just starting out working on my car and i'm glad i found this forum. What would you recomend that i start doing with the engine. Its bone stock except for a lunati cam (not sure of the specs on it), electric fan, no power steering or ac. I don't really know where to start and would love some advice.

what kind of mileage is on the motor, do you know? try to find out about that cam so you know lift and duration. a complete tune-up never hurts-plugs, plug wires, distributor cap and rotor, change oil and filter, change fluid and filter in transmission, flush radiator, clean the throttle body, etc. 3.73 gears in the rear with a new posi is a good investment along with headers, off road pipe, bigger exhaust, low restriction mufflers like Flowmasters or Dynomax, the list is endless!

I already started the tune up, well, i'm starting it, just got some plugs tonite bosch platnum, they are spaced at 35, the guy at advance said to space them to 55. whats the difference and how much should they be spaced, what are some good wires to get? my friend said to get some accel 9 milimeter wires, and as for the cam, how could i find out the lift and duration of it...i have no paperwork for it and the guy i bought the car from disapeared off the face of the earth or something.. thanx for all the help

.055" gap is the right gap for the plugs-it's a bigger gap but the higher energy ignitions use a larger gap than the old standard of .035". Autolite or Motorcraft makes some wires that are much less expensive the the 9mm Accel ones and you probably don't need anything much more than stock type wires at this point. getting the specs off the cam can be done but it's tricky. you need a 0-1" dial indicator with a magnetic base, a timing wheel and you have to pull a valve cover to get to the rocker arms. probably not worth the trouble right now if the motor is running decent. I forgot to mention now would be a good time to change the fuel filter also!
