Anybody here ever use ProComp Electronics Ignition
Just as the topic says, anybody here ever use Procomp Electronics Ignition on a Carbed car? Im getting ready to carb my car and was suggested them by someone that said I could save some dough if I went with someone other than MSD and the big boys... If not, exactly what MSD Distributor part number do i need to order. thanks.

I am using their distributor and no complaints, it is a quality piece equal to an MSD unit. I have seen their ignitions and they seem comparable to an MSD 6AL box for less money. I would go with it except I already have the MSD box.

I got their ford HEI distributor, and it rocks!! Super happy with it ($100 bucks shipped from ebay), but i already had the MSD 6AL so i can't vouch for their ignition box. I've heard some bad things about the 6AL "Not" being reliable, so if it ever goes out i'll give the Pro Comp fellas another shot.
Oh yeah, i also picked up their 155gph fuel pump at a sweet deal (holley blue style pump) and other than the wicked humming noise i get from where it's located, it functions great. Holley blues are loud as well, but this guy is louder than my flowmaster 40's lol.
Aussie or not, they make some descent cheap stuff that'll get you by. As for durability, time will tell i guess. Good luck Mate

88blackCONvert - what model number are you using for the distributor? what other ignition parts are you using? Are you using a vacuum advance ? I'm not sure what the difference is between a vacuum advance and mechanical is... I didnt think i would have any vacuum if I converted to carb?

I am a Warehouse Distributor for Pro Comp. On the WD price list, a lot fo their products have the "other" brand name and part number listed. Most of it is reboxed stuff. MSD, Holley and ARP clones are 3 good sellers of mine.

OJ, mechanical advance has weights and springs inside the distributor that increase advance in response to engine RPM. It works on centrifugal force. The vacuum advance has the same mechanical advance with the addition of a vacuum canister that increases advance as vacuum levels increase. Under WOT, low vacuum, the advance is less because the engine is likely to be under load. The vacuum advance is best for all around driveability. Straight mechanical advance is for drag racers only.
