going to track for the first time

some guys said I should be okay launchign at 4000 with a basically stock rear end. 3.55's w/ nittos.

Also, I'm thinking I should shift all gears at around 5000? would this be okay?

Got any other pointers for me?? all help appreciated!!

launching at 4K? i would think you would spin your tires way to much if you did that, but i'm no expert. i know when i dump the clutch at four grand i roast the tires pretty good. i would launch at like 1500 if i was drag racing, but we have different cars so i have no idea.

Nitto drag radials I hope. I would try launching around 3k on your first pass and then go from there. If it spins real bad, lower the launch RPM. If it bogs, launch with a higher RPM. Keep doing this until you find the sweet spot. I've heard that the Nittos like to be heated up really good. Try shifting around 5200 or so. Have fun!

You most definitly run the risk of breaking an axle if you plan on comming out of the hole at 4k and hooking up. My buddy ran a 306, stock bottom end, 150 shot ported winsor jr heads and a decnet carb and intake manifold. He left the hole on nitto 555R's at 5500, he snapped an axel after 3 passes. I mean, you could do it, but if you drive that thing every day to work you might be better off taking it a litttle easy. But since its your first time Just get a feel for it, take some test launches...

lol, what a special moment in a boy's life! but yeah if you have good drag tires and stuff then maybe you would be ok, i would go out and practice somewhere though just to make sure. try launching at different RPMs just to see what works best. i have crappy tires, and my #1 goal when i'm launching is to get a good burnout and spin the mother effer right sideways. but i dont dragrace, i just beat the piss out of 'er, so i'm probably not one you want advice from.

It's a crap shoot. I've got a minimum of 100 passes at the trach with 4.10's, slicks, 5,000rpm+ launches off the line, & with 300 rwtq. Once I upped my launch rpm to 6,200rpm; broke an axel after about 25 passes. That stock 8.8 in my car took some serious abuse.... Too say i was amazed is an understatement!
