5.0 EFI non HO...build?questions.help...
Hi, great forum.
Im into pre runners(rangers dezert racing), and resently I started to get my v6 out of my ranger and searchging for a 5.0 HO.
My friends uncle told me he had a Town Car that had the 5.0 I was loooking for, but its not a 5.0 HO, my question are
can I built this engine up? what about the computer? Or should I just go get a 5.0 HO.....and built that instead, since I got this car for free, I already have the engien out and took the hardnesss out, carefully.....I dindt get the Miles on it, but still I want this to atleast get into the 350 hp's......Will see how much $$$ I can spend.
Swap will be done into a 03 Ranger Edge,( v6 4.0) Will be adding a C4 trans.
Thanks alot, I'll keep searching.........laters

RE: 5.0 EFI non HO...build?questions.help...
Dont quote me on this but I think the only thing diff about a "HO" and a normal 302 is just the HO has E7 heads. Other than that a 302 engine is a 302 engine. If you plan on rebuilding it totally a 302 block is the same as any 302 block. So yes if you have a 302 "HO" with heads, intake mani,Headers, exhaust it will run the same as a 5.0 non HO with the same mods. That is provided they have the same fuel delivery system (EFI or Carb).
hope that helps bro

the only thing you would need the harness for is the EFI system. if you just run it with a carb you wouldnt need a computer or harness. I'm not very fimiliar with the non HO engines either, but i dont think there would be much of a difference between the two. find the casting numbers on the heads. on HO engines they were E7TE. look at the pistons. Some HO's had forged pistons. I know 90 did for sure but i dont know which other years.
you can build the other 5.0 up to put out the same numbers a 5.0 HO would. All of the parts would be interchangable. I dont know a lot about pre runners except they are fast and have some crazy suspension work. I dont know what kind of engine set ups are used as far as fuel injection or carburation. But if you were planning on using an EFI system off a 5.0 you would need to get the harness and computer. you could also buy a pigback system to tweak the computer parameters to increase the performance of the engine. I dont think it would matter if you have an HO or not.

The difference between H.O.'s and Non-H.O.'s is Cam, Intake, Heads, Firing order. This means you have to cut and lengthen/shorten the injector wiring assuming it's not a CFI system. The computer out of the town car will work.
What year of Town Car is it out of, some also got flat-top pistons, which needless to say, suck and you'll never get any power out of the motor.

Thanks alot felas....
It's a 89-90 Town Car, I plan on rebuilding the engine from the bottom up.
I was planning on hitting 300-350 hp's. Im going with fuel injection.
I'll get does casting numbers tomorrow. Its gonna be a rebuild so if the parts are the same I'll just get everything.
Laterss.......thanks for the advise.I'll keep ya posted.
flat-top pistons?? But I can rebuild it with better ones right, I can go diferent routes right?

Oh well if you're going to re-build it the pistons it has in it don't matter. Just order an H.O. rebuild kit, and that'll swap out your flat-tops if it has them, which I don't think it does, too new to have flat-tops I believe, but I could be wrong, doesn't really matter though since yo are re-building it. Good luck bro
