Default Convertible window leaks

Hi,
I've searched the forums, but I couldn't find this specific problem. Maybe someone can offer some advice?

I have a 1989 Mustang LX 5.0 Convertible. There is a slight gap between the driver's side window and the rear quarter panel window when the windows are up. The gap is between the driver's side window and the weatherstripping that is attached to the rear quarter panel window.

Will new weatherstripping solve this problem? Or, are the windows out of alignment? How can you determine the culprit? I've seen where I can get new weatherstripping for the rear windows, but before spending the $$$, I'd like to know whether this will help or not. And, is this weatherstripping replacement difficult?

Any information is appreciated.

Thank you!
Kevin

Both the front and rear window can be adjusted to move from side to side. Try this before you replace any weather striping.

probably a little bit of both,

adjusting the window will close the gap, and new
seals will seal it really well.

Yea, I have that same problem with the space between the window and the stripping. I have a fairly large gap that is getting bigger it seems like. I've replaced the motor for the window but it didn't fix it. I'd like to know how to fix this problem too. I've tried to help it and everything but I still have a fairly big gap in between the window and the top. How do I fix this?

Hey mustangchippy90, I thought I was the only one here with a 7-up! Sweet to have another in the mix!!!

I have the same leak problem, but luckily live in SoCal where it hardly ever rains. And when it does, I just grin and bear it...

I did a little more investigation this weekend and found the gap is due to my rear quarter window. The passenger side looks good as far as window and seal alignment, so I measured those windows against the driver's side. And, I found that the rear driver side window is about 3/4" inch off. So, I will take off the rear interior trim around the window and see what can be adjusted...

If anybody has any specific urls or book references for these type of adjustments for a 1989 Mustang Convertible, I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Kevin

I adjusted my windows, and it helped out a lot... it also helped the vibration and moving in all axis. You can loosen brackets in there, and slide them. Figure out how far they need to be to make it tight, but not put a lot of strain on the motor. Then get the weatherstrip and you should be good.
