Default frequent drop in oil pressure.

my motor has aabout 4k on it now. all new forged 347. since ive had it, a handful of times the oil pressure has fell to about a quarter of the way on the guage. i can cut it off and start it back and its still like that. i leave it off awhile and start it and its back to norm.its done this about 10 times or more since ive had it. why???? does it sound like something to worry about? or maybe the stock gauge is going gay on me? lets hear whatcha think guys.

If you are still using the stock guage you should switch to a mechanical unit. Could be an electrical glitch or your pressure could actually be dropping out for some reason. With the stock guage it is hard to tell. An aftermarket mechanical guage is cheap insurance for your motor.

here's what I do in the shop... hook up an external guage to your oil sending unit plug hole and start the engine... let it run for a while and do normal movements and such and check your readings... if they are fine then more than likely it's the sending unit that's getting clogged... another possible cause is that your oil pump is old and needs to be replaced... pumps go bad over time... spec should be somewhere around 40-60 pounds at 2500 RPM HOT.

I have the same problem. Except my oil pressure will be good until of about 15 minutes of running, I'll mash in the clutch or idle and my pressure drops. I was told it's because the motor just got broke in. Is this true or should I have it checked out?

yea, get some real gauges. Same prob here as Tim. Bad gauge=down Autometer gauge=up You should have about 10psi of oil pressure for about every 1000rpms. The tach's the worst in my car. The stock tach is the worst of them all, going down the highway mine is sitting at like 1500rpm my Autometer 5" tach is sitting at 2300.

Apparently not....lol.....come to think of it....accuracy....hell, at least get me in the ball park here....lol[8D]

Oh dude, and when you do go to get some autometers, get some mechanical gauges. Unless you like doing lots of wiring. JMO
