Default How to tell if drums are bad

im going to the junkyard today looking for 5 lug rear axles and drums, i dont want to buy the drums new so how can i tell if there going bad?

check for obvious signs of damage (cracks, pits, etc) if looks good then you can measure the inside diameter of the drum. the maximum width should be stamped on the outside of the drum. measure several different directions to make sure it is not severely out of round. if it's less than the stamped maximum diameter any machine shop can clean em up for ya.

^^yea the main thing to look for is to make sure they are not heat cracked.

yea that would do it to, but real hard braking really fast is what is hard on brakes. ur not supposed to just stop the brakes ur supposed to ease into them. when u hit them really fast they go from warm to hot really fast.
