Default flying hood!!

Hey guys I have a question. I recently put a ram air hood on my stang and just yesterday I found out the hard way that the hood wasn't latched[:@] The hood flew over my car and landed on the shoulder of the road(thank god nobody got hurt) My problem is that when the hood let loose it really dented my cowl area. The plastic vent is smashed to pieces but the metal is really dented bad(see picture) Does any one have an idea on what I could do to fix this? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!! The hood, by the way, is actually salvageable which is good news considering I payed $400 for the hood alone[]

i did the same thing last week, only my hood didnt fly off, only thing you could do is let a body shop do the work, they gotta cut the whole cowl out and re sheet it, thats the right way anyway.

You might consider investing in a stud welder. This way you can pull it all back into shape without drilling holes in the cowl area. Eastwood & harbor Frieght sell them....IMHO

Actually that whole piece IS removable. Dont ask me what you have to do to get it out but I know that you can... I have seen people remove them and replace them because they had problems like this. I actually seen a whole cowl section on ebay the other week.

But that would take massive amounts of work and if it were me I would just try to get under there and bang it back up if thats even possible.

They are removable with a sawzaw. My buddy had this happen to his car when he let his girl drive it. She decided to check the oil, and didn't put the pins back in and whack!!. We took a saw, and cut out the crushed one, and got another one from a junkyard and screwed it togather with sheet metal screws (self tapping). It isn't that bad, but it's kinda scary if you never done anything like that before.

Thanxs alot for all your ideas on what I should do. I appreciate the help and I might just use a sawsall if worse comes to worse. But what do you think about cutting a thin piece of metal for both sides of the cowl, painting it to match the car,and adhering it to the top of the old cowl??? This way no one will be able to tell that any thing happened at all. Any other ideas? And yes I will be getting hood pins!!!!
