Default Please don't do that, Dave (respond QUICK please!)

I bought the car with a hypertech CHIP (different than the power module, just a chip) installed, and it's for the stock motor. I don't get much time to work on my car as I work and go to college full time, so I end up slacking on alot of things that need to get done.

I have done a few bolt-ons to the car, CAI, Cobra MAF, Cobra Intake Manifold, stuff like that, and when I called Hypertech to ask if they made upgraded chips and explained my situation, the guy told me that I'd be better off taking the chip out is it is probably costing me performance and/or gas mileage.

Does anyone know where the chip is? Is it under the passenger seat in the computer? Can you just take off the seat and pull out the chip? I finally have like THREE hours to work on my car, someone help me lol, I'm gonna run over to Autozone really quick.

Oh also, underdrive pulleys...

They've been sitting in a box in my closet for about a year and a half now, anyone know if they NEGATIVELY effect handling in any way/shape/form? They're MAC and one of them replaces the power steering pulley... that's why I ask.

THANKS EVERYONE!

i dunno where the hypertech chip would be.

the negitives of underdrive pulleys is they can cause charging issues. a lot of people have been complaining of their cars dying and not restarting because the alternator isnt charging the battery. you shouldnt have any power steering problems even with a different size pulley

ok pragrammers work one of 2 ways

1. they replace the exisiting info on the internal EEC chip
with new info, and in that case your screwed with out the
orginial programming unit to swap original info back in.

or

2. they stay plugged into the service port on the back
of the EEC computer, if I'm not mistaken the computer
is up behind the dash on drivers side kinda down by
the drivers left leg behind the plastic kick panels,
the computer is a small thin metal box with a plug-in
connection on one end and the service port ( usually covered by some tape )
on the other end.

and yes the hyper chips were usually written with very specific
mods in mind and dont do as well if your engine doesnt have EXACTLY
what their chip was programmed for

underdrive pullies usually just give people under voltage problems
cauise alternator is not turning as fast, you can up grade alternator
to 100-130 amp unit will fix it.

the car dying is more of an alternator problem then pully problem. the faster the engine goes the faster the alternator is turned, therefore it ought to be able to charge just fine at idle. with 25% reduction or so you will still do just fine by driving around town. if u do alot of stop and go just adjust the idle rpm. i can do it with a tuner, not sure how u guys do.... i think theres a screw on ur TB

yeah theres a screw on the throttle linkage. i had the charging problem. what happened was, someone put the pulleys on the car, alternator, water pump, and crank pulleys. then they sold it and the new owner replaced the alternator and didnt swap the pulleys. so it had a larger pulley on it. then i bought it. i had to put a new alternator on it with a smaller pulley. now its fine. since the alternator had a larger pulley it was spinning slower than it should have been, causing it to not charge to its potential. plus i think one of the rectifiers was bad too.

Interesting. I have NEVER seen a set of underdrives include a p/s pulley. Are you sure that's what it is?
