the only way u will hurt the crank is if you slip, w/e im telling u that u need to hit it harder. they are TIGHT sometimes and it takes a good smack to brake it loose. I had a 5lb sledge on one once.

Maybe WD-40 or something overnight and then a 3# hammer with small punch, they can be horrid to remove......

lol...yea, i dont think tims saying to beat it like your splitting wood or something, but just to hit it a little harder. it has to come out. has it been out awhile or did it just come out of the motor? if its been out awhile it possibly could have built up rust. id say penatrating oil overnight and try to punch it out with a hammer and flathead punch in the morning.

^^agree with ya. except i would not use a flat head punch. use a tiped punch. a flat head is to much like a screw driver and i would not want to see the crank if you slip.

Use more heat. Heat it and let it cool a few times, then heat it again and tap on it, just one side. I think it isn't a bad idea for some good rust killer either like wd 40 or pb or something.
