Calling all guru ignition gurus(update)
 

I am still battleing my timing issue please help.[:@]

I have my timing set at 12 degrees and when plug the spout connector in it jumps to 15.
The thing has a mind of its own it will advance the timing on its own at times and the idle jump to like 1500 rpm's while in advance condition. The only way i can get it out of advance is either unplug the spout or wait for it to change itself back. when it goes into advance it is like 30-35 degrees at idle. What seems to be the cause of this? I am thinking the computer but not sure and dont wanna dump 150.00 in it if not going to fix it. As far as doing a koeo/koer test the light doesnt work so gotta figure another way to do this or buy a scanner. just looking for some suggestions or something to try Please help and sorry for the long read.

you can use a scanner at any auto parts store for free.

try disconnecting the negative battery terminal before you unplug the spout and before you plug it back in.

There shouldn't be any need for doing that.

Could be an ecm or module problem.

Some of the stores around here got into some crap over the pulling codes and selling parts that didnt fix the problem.
I am thinking most of them quit doing it around here. I will call some places tomorrow and see if they still do or not.

When you pull the spout connector the computer takes the advance down (hence the drop in RPM's). You then set the timming at the setting that best suites the engine. When you plug the spout back in, it is normal that the advance will jump up a degree or two. The computer so-to-speak has to relearn how to run with the new setting and will adjust itself to the new reading.

The first time that I set the timming on my 5.0 the same thing happend to me. I would drive the car a little while and everything was fine. I later found out that this was normal and that the computer has to relearn new settings.

If the computer advanced the timming to 35-35 actual degrees BTDC I don't think that the car could run, BUT It's supposed to be 34-38 degrees advance with the spout connector plugged in. Is that what you were saying?

Yes at idle with the spout in it will jump on its own to 30-35 or so degrees.
I can unplug the spout and it drops back to normal base timing.

I have figured out the timing will bump a lil more when you plug the spout in to be normal.

My biggest conern now is why is the timing going full advance at idle?
