FI to carb, fuel pickup ??
I'll be converting to carb shortly. Can the stock FI pump be replaced with a short length of hard line spliced with rubber hose? Motor will be lucky to make 350hp. I was thinking of a electric pump 7-9 PSI in the rear, regulator up front, and using the factory supply line and fuel filter.
Yeah, I read Fletch's site, I'm not shellin out $100 for a new pickup. |

[ul][*] Replace in-tank fuel pump with a low-pressure alternative, I used a '88 Taurus 2.5L CFI pump. [*] Use existent supply/return lines to install/plumb an adjustable bypass style fuel pressure regulator. (Holley or Mallory)[*] Install relay circuit for the in-tank fuel pump. [/ul] NOTE: This is how my '86 has been setup for the past 13 yrs., no problems whatsoever + it looks clean. 2. [ul][*] Keep in-tank EFI fuel pump.[*] Use existent supply/return lines to install/plumb this bypass style fuel pressure regulator.[*] Install relay circuit for the in-tank fuel pump.[*] Replace return line with a larger one as required. [/ul] Obviously...I'd go with #1.....Hope this helps. |

Cool, I can probably get a pump for free from work. Any idea of the HP limits of the Taurus setup?

RE: FI to carb, fuel pickup ??
hey me33, i just cut a peice of 3/8 aluminum fuel line the length of the stock fuel pump and flared out the bottom (where it will suck fuel) and used the copper screen from the bottom of the old pump and wrapped around the bottom and ALSO the pickup net that's attached to the old pump to prevent sucking up any nasties that may be in your gas tank. Works great in my car. Just attach with the old hose clamps that were used to attach your old efi fuel pump.
