Oil Consumption

RE: Oil Consumption
The compression test should definitely help and DEFINITELY hold off on synthetic oil. That will just make it worse. If I remember correctly I considered doing this on one of my pony's that had some age on it, and I was told not to. Hopefully the compression test will show top end issues as opposed to having to dig deeper.

1-2qt in 3k is nothing to worry about. thats not bad at all. when u put a qt in per 100mi than u have a problem.

^^^ Agreed. 1~2 within an oil change simply = motor with some mileage on it.

RE: Oil Consumption
I have a 94 gt and its getting up there in milage, when i bought it had 120,000 and used to burn oil not that much though mabe a qt every 3000 miles I used a additive wich is called seafoam when i changed the oil and it would burn little to no oil at all. its been almost 20,000 miles later and it has reasently started to burn oil so next oil chang im gonna use it again.

RE: Oil Consumption
if it burns upon start up its prolly bad valve guides or the valve guide(umbrella) seals. It could still be this when you let off the gas because you reintoduce vaccuum at this point and will be pulling the oil past the bad guides/seals...either way I agree with running a thicker oil till you rebuild it, unless its getting too bad on consumption then I'd say park it until you do a rebuild of the heads or entire engine if it is blowbye

RE: Oil Consumption
Thanks to all for your advice. Car runs too good for me to be overly concerned at this point. I notice a little oil residue on the rear bumper above the pipes. I will check compression this weekend and hopefully find that it is in the top end, but I expect that it is blow by. If so, I've been looking for a good excuse for a new long block. Thanks again.

RE: Oil Consumption
We I think my #1 piston oil ring is bad because I have to change that spark plug about every 3K miles cuz it uses so much in that piston that the plug gets coated in it and goes bad, and starts missing.
