I have an 850k6 as well. You do have to reroute the belt around the crank and water pump.

It may be poosible you broke your belt out of old age and simply scortched
one of the ribs on one of the pulleys? Check the ribs and make sure they look good.
Just a suggestion, hey odd stuff can happen.

but I put a brand new one on...and it broke also. I'm going to check my water pump tomorrow as soon as I can...hopefully that will be the problem... Thanks guys!
