Default Broke 2 belts in one day!

Alright..so last night I hear some wierd noise comin from my engine bay. I get out and check... one rib of the serpentine belt had split away! [:@] I have the 83.5in belt routed to delete the smog pump...I've had it that way for about a month or so..w/ no problems. Then this happens. I go today and get a new belt and replace it...all is good 'til on down the road...the new belt gets torn all to hell... luckily I had my old stock belt and was able to get it put on...no problems with it YET..but I dunno what could cause the two belts to get all jacked up like that [] Anyone have any ideas???

I thought maybe a bearing or somethin was bad in one of the pulleys, but I couldn't hear anything and I can't really see any wobble in any of them...

SOMEONE HELP ME PLEASE

^^^ Tim is right, something has to be locked up. Try and spin all the pulleys by hand.

I was just reading that other post on a busted belt...someone said something about it not being the waterpump unless it's been overheated/leaking... Well Lately I've noticed my car runs quite a bit warmer than normal...may be low coolant but i'm not positive -I'm gonna check that tomorrow... could my water pump be goin bad...would that cause this?

It could be the water pump even if its not over heating. The water pump should spink with little force, it takes a lot of force to spin it, you found your problem.

i had the same problem man..it depends on how you are routing the belt.. check the clearance coming from where the part of the belt coming from the alternator and the one form the tensioner.. it will always be close and it very dangerous.. i think the part number is 850k6 for the correct belt.. but you have to route it a different way.. go search some previous threads about it.. they have alot of threads baout eliminating the smog.. some threads should have a diagram too.
