5.0's have different heads, cam, intake and firing order, make something like 145 hp and 170ft lbs while H.O.'s are puttin out 225 and 300. You can easily convert a 5.0 into an H.O.

The 87-92's had forged TRW pistons, but 93-95 didn't and they were still HO's. I heard from someone that it was basically a gimmick from Ford. Mostly just different firing order.
...and I don't know about higher compression b/c they're still only 9:1 or 9.5:1, I don't remember which.

Not sure so don't flame me on this, BUT I was always under the impression that all of the EFI 5.0's were the HO. I thought when the converted over to the EFI from carb they decided to go HO.
