Default 1988 4 banger

I was wondering if it would be smart to buy a 1988 4 banger and put a 302 or better in it? also wondering how hard it would be to convert it from auto to standerd? and want to know what other kinda work that would need to be done to.

If your going to do all that work and spend all that money it would be a hell of alot easier to just go and buy a v8 5spd... unless you WANT to do all of the work and than thats fine.
