Yeah it'd help to know which coil and distributor you have to help out.

Uh, that doesn't sound right. I don't know what you have for a coil and which distributor you have, though.

my msd distributor gets as hot as the rest of the engine, but if it shuts off because it is too hot, then your timing may need to be adjusted, or your ignition module is going bad.
how long have you had it on?
and I dont think the type of coil will have anything to do with it.

I'll have the car running for about 15-20 minutes when the car shuts down. I've heard of the MSD ingintions going bad, i'm going to check what type of coil i have and maybe that is the problem. How do you know if your coil is bad? does it read a certain charge or what?

MSD Distributors do suck! I bought a brand new one, put it in a brand new engine, and it would only run until the engine warmed up, then it would shut off. MSD now has the dizzy again and Im stuck running stock for now.

Coils are a little hard to diagnose, best to try to replace it to eliminate the possibility. Resistance will tell you s**t unless it's open. Heat will cause them to fail randomly. The pickup coil inside a distributor can fail the same due to heat and modules the same. There is not enough electrical energy in the ignition system to heat up the dizzy if that helps. If it's a TFI mounted to the dizzy, most likely the module, external heat kills them.
