Default 373

i have a set of 373's that i got for free from a friend, but they have an uneven wear pattern. they wernt instaled correct, and they were drivin on for about a week... there not in terrible shape but you can see where it started to wear...i have my rear end apart right now, should i try these? do you think they'd be really noisey? or should i just wait for some new ones? any thoughts?

If it was me I would stay away from them. rear end gears need to be broken in just right. If these are showing odd wear patterns you're asking for trouble. Do yourself a favor and order a new set of Ford Racing gears for 175 bucks from summit http://store.summitracing.com/ I went with the 3:73 Ford racing on what I read on the net and have never even heard the slightest noise from them. After installation they need to be heat cycled run for 50 miles or so then cooled downed repeat till 200 miles or so then pull the cover and have the lash checked, then if you want that is a good time to switch to synthethic gear lube. (do not break in with the synthethic )

one week wear shouldn't be enough to really worry about unless they were really way off on the installation. I'd try them and make sure I installed them correctly with the proper contact area checked using white grease and changing shims until it is just right, then run the car with the rear off the ground for 30 minutes and let it cool thoroughly. then repeat the process. after this, drive it on the street easy for a few days and see how this works. you can always come back later with a new set if these turn out to be too noisy for you. use regular rear end oil, not synthetic and make sure you add the friction modifier if you have a posi.
