Default New 5.0 owner needs help

I just bought a 95 5.0 mustang with 86k miles on it in perfect condition. Its completely stock from head to toe. I took it to the track today and its running a 10.3 second 1/8 mile. What Could i do to it to make it faster? At the track a guy with a 92 5.0 said that he did a bunch of mods that gave him more HP for free. He said something about a heater in the throttle body and the electrical in the belts or something. Does any one have any idea what these mods might be and how to do them?

I think the guy might have been yanking your chain? I don't know.. To start out, go with basic bolt-ons. It's not free, but theres no free mods really. CAI, advance the timing, cat-back, X or H pipe, headers, etc would be a good start. The biggest thing you could do to help your ET would be gears, look at 500 + bucks for labor and parts but your ET will drop dramatically, moreso than with all the basic bolt-ons I mentioned above.

i thought he might have been but wasnt sure. My friend who knows a lot more about mustangs in general than i do, also looked at that car and said that it it didnt sound that fake. I was thinking about droping a new intake manifold in there eventually as well, but then that is another 500+. So I dont know wether i should get the catback, intake manifold, or the gears first.

Well, the only thing that I could think about with a heater in the throttle body would be the fact that coolant runs through 5.0 TBs, just after it goes through the engine already. In an attempt to cool the TB down, IIRC, it actually heats it up, heating up the air and getting less-dense air into your engine. If I remember correctly, the tube can be rerouted from the TB somehow, but there's a drawback I think.

Theres no drawbacks on the TB hose bypass unless you live in a COLD state. You can remove your air silencer, The electric part he mention prolly meant advance the timing.. Thats about it thats FREE unless you take off your intake and heads and polish them your self and grind them to get maximum fit with gasket.. I may be missin sumin but i cant remember anything esle i did to mine that were cost free.....

don't know about the coolant in the TB on 94-95's....You definitely want gears first....3.55+ depending on whether you have a stick or auto and how much hwy driving you do.

If you arent' going to get a CAI, get a K&N and remove your air silencer from the passenger side fenderwell. bump the timing up...12 if you're staying on 87-89 octane or 14ish if your willing to run premium. timing will vary on each car so you have to listen to make sure you aren't pinging. Also a 75-76mm MAF sensor will help w/ getting air to your motor since the stocker is smaller than the TB.
