STUPID STARTER QUESTION
 
I think this is a stupid question but i just bought a used starter today and was wondering if i clean it up with some simple green and hose it down will the starter still work or will i damage it at all?????

Why would you want to clean it. It's not like it can be seen under the car. Is it all greasy? If not, slap it on and let it eat!!!

cause this one was only 30 bucks and its all greased up was only wondering if i needed to clean an parts of it???

Just clean the outside of it carefully. Don't get any of that crap on the inside of it.

scrape as much off as possible so you dont cantaminate and clog up the insides

I've found that mineral spirits/ paint thinner works great when it comes to stripping grease. Other than that, some break cleaner or some electronics cleaner may help you a bit, only because they both evaporate rather quickly. I took a wire wheel to my starter then wiped it down with minteral spirit soaked rags, then I put 2 coats primer and 2 coats high temp black. It looks great, and cost me about 4 bucks..
Too bad I cant use it, because my ******* CAR has no OIL PRESSURE [>:]
