charging problem..
i got a new battery the day b4 i went to the track and on the way there it wasnt charging enough..it was only charging like 10 volts (that wat it was at on the gauge) i was in the staging lane for my 2nd run and it just shut off and i had to get towed back to c wut was wrong ..so we went and bought a new alternator real quick and put it on and it still wasnt charging..still around 10 volts..??
does anyone have any ideas wut it could be....?????

RE: charging problem..
Make sure all conections to the battery, alternator and chassis/motor are relativly clean... without any major grease buildup or **** like that. Also make sure your battery cables are in good condition.

RE: charging problem..
its amazing how no one ever thinks that their ALTERNATOR could be why they are losing power...
omg.. my car wont start... must be my battery
then again... maybe its just more obvious for me since im a mechanic

Or maybe its because he said he already replaced the alternator...
As a "mechanic" you should know that if you replace a componenet and the problem isnt fixed, then well god damn! I guess it it wasnt that now was it? Its called shotgunning the problem... Not everybody has the time, equipment or know how to properly troubleshoot/diagnose a problem so sometimes this actually is an ok method... not my 1st choice might I add. Not too many backyard mechanics can load test an alternator.

as a "mechanic" i wouldnt have replaced the alternator if it WASNT the problem
also... just because you replaced it... doesnt mean it didnt go bad again. ive seen them fail right out of the box, even 2-3 weeks later
