Default Black smoke and gas smell?

my car was getting hard to start when it was hot after i advanced my timing.. so i turned it back down a bit and now theres alot of black smoke coming from the exhaust and when i pop the throttle at idle.. it hesitates.. the RPM's go down a bit and then goes up.. and also, when in driving, im doing about 20 and floor it.. it also hesitates then hits 1st gear.. please help!!

How did you set the timing? Did you use a light?

i didn't pull the spout... should i have done that? and would that cause it to run that rich? nah i didnt use the light.. the timing was set at like 13 degrees.. my dad's general mechanic did it for me when he replaced hte dizzy. we backed it off just a bit cause it was hard to start. and now it sucks! =(

haha just turn the dizzy down a bit thats all.. clockwise is advancing and counter clockwisse is retarding am i right? i mean we barely turned it. but is it a reason whhy its running so bad?
