Default Drilling Fiberglass Hood?

I just ordered hood pins for my mustang. I've got a fiberglass Cobra R Y2K hood and am worried about it blowing up.

Anyway my question is, is there anything i need to do to prep the fiberglass to keep it from cracking when i drill the holes?

i have no idea if this is correct cause i have never actually done it, but i heard you are supposed to put something around the spot where your going to drill. Take some masking tape or something and put it all around the hole your about to drill that way it doesnt splinter. Like i said, i dont really know for sure so maybe someone will chime in and tell me im wrong. or right

Start with a small bit to start your hole then move up to the bigger one. Use masking tape of course.

And post pics when done.

I've never done it w/ a hood, but from what ya'll are describing, couldn't you just put a couple of layers of tape over the spot you wanted to drill and then drill thru it? Seems like that would be the best way to keep it from splintering... Just use fairly wide tape.....

Good idea on the grease i'll have to use that. I should do it this weekend assuming the pins show up. I'll make sure to post pics of it done and new tires.

Thanks for all the advice. Should the tape be thick or just on there?

Use painters tape! Make sure your drill is going at high speed and go slow.

Sharp drill bit. The sharper it is the cleaner the hole will be. Also, I didn't do it to mine BUT you could just put masking tape over the area that you are about to drill and just drill through the tape. That way the surrounding area doesn't have any extra stress.

Just use a smaller bit and go up to the bigger size, and take it slow, I did this and it didnt crack.
