EGR valve not operating
My check engine light came on in the last few days so I tried oulling some codes and got 332, EGR valve isn't opening and closing correctly.
I'm barely familiar with the EGR only knowing that take exhaust and recycles it...
My question is what should I do..? Is it worth replacing it or should I block it off or what and how is affecting my driving right now?

RE: EGR valve not operating
bulls**t! if you don't recirculate already burnt gases back into the motor, how can that hurt it down the road. it is strictly an emissions control device designed to lower combustion temps to reduce NOX. Milky, you can remove the valve and clean it with some carb cleaner and reinstall it with a new gasket. the plunger is probably stuck and gummed up. spray it good and let it sit for a few minutes, then try pushing in on the little cone you see sticking out and see if it moves any. it is supposed to move in and out about 1/2 inch. engine vacuum opens it and an internal spring keeps it closed. keep spraying and pushing to free it up and then reinstall it and you should be fine. if you have access to a vacuum pump, you can check it off the motor with the pump and make sure it moves full stroke.

EXACTLY RIGHT ROUNDMAN!
I had the same thing on my 2.3 happen i cleaned it real well with carb cleaner and let it sit in carb cleaner over night and then went throught it again and it ran like a top and took care of it.
Roundman is right though it does nothing more than help with emissions.

RE: EGR valve not operating
the exhaust gas that the EGR valve recirculates comes up through a passageway in the upper intake to the valve and then enters the fresh air side of the intake once it passes through the valve. this passageway helps to heat up the intake to help on cold starts when the engine is idling and the vacuum is high, but it also keeps the intake hotter than it needs to be all the time too. I recently removed mine altogether and plugged this passage way with steel wool and a marine epoxy compound from the bottom side of the intake. My intake stays a lot cooler now than it used to! I also had the vacuum line disconnected on mine for like three years so it could not open and it never did turn on the engine light. I did leave the electrical part of the valve plugged in when I removed the mechanical part just in case the computer needed to see some signal, but I haven't had any problem with it since I removed it. I cut a thin metal plate to block off where the valve used to be and sealed the internal passage at this end also so fresh air couldn't leak in. I used some RTV to seal the plate and bolted it on with the same bolts that held the valve on.
