DO NOT try to change the jetting of the carb until you get the timing issues sorted out. Even then you may not want to unless where you are operating the car is at 2000or more above sea level........
Try this, use a vacumn gauge thats hooked to the motor, then use the timing lite to see what the it reads when you have the highest reading on the gauge.......

Hey all, I've got a 1982 5.0 LX that I've been working on for a number of years. Last year put in a Crane mild Cam (130092) and a Holley double pumper 600 CFM(4776) hoping for some gains on my previous 1/4 mile times. I had been running high 14s on the stock cam and carb (2bbl) with a race built C4, 2800 stall, headers, 4:11 posi. Most of the car is stock otherwise.
I had hoped to gain at least a little bit of time (1/4 second or so) but ended up running nearly exactly the same times as the stock cam and 2bbl. I had some trouble getting the timing right since the firing order changed with the cam (302 firing order on this cam). Once I got the car running it didn't seem to have the power it should. Also I was wondering about the jets on the holley. They are stock from the factory but I was wondering if these may need to be adjusted to work on my setup.
I know this is kind of vague to start with but any tips on setting up timing, setting up jets, or any other reasons that could explain the poor performance would be great. Any help is appreciated, and feel free to ask more questions. I'll answer best as I can.
Thanks,
Andre Roeger

Grabbem88; No I just always use a port around the carb base when power tuning.
I suppose it would be about the same on an F.I. car too.
Most of the time(90%), I've learned in 35+ years of fooling with this stuff that it's an electrical problem or a timing problem, not the carb....
