Default Whats a better motor?

So whats better, really a 5L or the 4.6L, I'm talking reliability and performance? I'm going to buy a mustang over the next few weeks. I'm almost sure I'm going to go with an 87-93, but I just want some feedback on the 4.6l as well. I'm going to spend around $8500 canadian. Thanks

hey man, i would go with the 5.0 they are bigger and really faster cause they are in a faster body which is more aerodynamic and a lot lighter. if u can get a coupe and not a gt because the coupe will be a little faster. a gt has like 10 or 15 more hp but is slower cause of the heavier body, in my opinion the coupes look nicer tooo!! believe it or not u could take like a 03 coupe 5.0 and put it on the street with a 03 gt with the 4.6 and believe it or not the 5.0 would win!!!!!!!! c they went from a 5.0 to a 4.6 because of emmisions, they actually have the same hp but the 5.0 is once again faster cause the body. if u plan to work on it or do mods go with the 5.0 the 4.6 is really packed in the engine compartment. and the 5.0 really respond real to little mods. as far as reliablity goes dont worry. the 4.6 lasts and i know guys with 5.0s that have 170k and still runnin strong!!!! hope this help out a little. send me a instant message when u read this my sc is fstmstng93 .

not really, and he's confused about why they went to the 4.6 engine too.
I'd go with a 5.0 right now as the aftermarket has had many years to develop go fast parts for it and they are relatively cheap compared to the 4.6 engine. In time though, the 4.6 will be the higher performer due to the overhead cam design which reduces the weight of the valvetrains and allows the engine to rev so much easier and higher.

5.0 has more avaible parts for it. cheaper to find. 4.6 unless a dohc isnt really worth modding. not to many aftermarket parts are avaible for the 4.6

I would highly agree with everyone else, 5.0s are faster, easier to work on, as well as better looking, i think they will last longer as well, you know the saying they dont make em like they used to. my 5.0 is just now going on 190k and only thing thats gone wrong is a lifter collapsed. But if your going to be modding a car, than this is no big deal. just makes me get it modded quicker. Go five O

5.0's are faster? I don't know where you fellas are getting that from. They maybe faster than the ones in the 94-98 GT's... But there no where near the performance in the ones you get in the 99+ GT's...

Now reliablity...Yes the 5.0's are the better buy and there are tons of go fast parts for your 5.0 motor...So you have both pros and cons, weight each of them and make your decision....It all comes down to what your willing to spend...I don't know what you have in your pocket book..LOL...But that's my take on it.

Thanks for the input guys! I'm going to go with the 5L. I was just wondering, is the High Output 5L much better? and how can you tell if it's high output?
